Man Arrested for Fatal Hit-and-Run in Lakeland

Lakeland police have arrested Daniel Kovacs in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on November 23, 2024, resulting in the death of 67-year-old Robin Brown. Kovacs faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death and tampering with physical evidence. Investigators identified the suspect vehicle as a silver 2022 Range Rover registered to Kovacs, which had been dropped off for repairs shortly after the incident. Surveillance footage showed Kovacs leaving a downtown restaurant with a passenger before the crash, where he struck Brown and fled the scene. Evidence also indicated attempts to conceal the vehicle's damage after the crash. Police Chief Sam Taylor expressed gratitude for the community's cooperation in gathering evidence to bring justice for Brown.
