Tucson Council Primaries and South Tucson Recall Held

Tucson held primary elections for City Council in Wards 3, 5, and 6, where Democrats Kevin Dahl and Sadie Shaw competed in Ward 3, with Republican Janet Wittenbraker unopposed; Ward 5 featured a three-way Democratic race with no Republican candidate; and Ward 6 included Democrats Leighton Rockafellow Jr., Miranda Schubert, James Sinex, and Republican Jay Tolkoff. Meanwhile, South Tucson conducted a recall election targeting Mayor Roxanna Valenzuela and council members Cesar Aguirre and Brian Flagg, who faced write-in challengers amid incumbent criticism of the election's cost. Polls closed at 7 p.m., with results posted on official city and county websites throughout the evening. These elections will determine party nominees for the November general election and could lead to changes in leadership for both cities. South Tucson’s mayor is selected by council members, and this is the city's third recall in just over a decade.
