Rays Recall Simpson, Demote Misner to Triple-A

The Tampa Bay Rays have recalled rookie outfielder Chandler Simpson from Triple-A Durham after optioning center fielder Kameron Misner, who had struggled offensively despite strong defensive play. Simpson, regarded as the fastest player in baseball, hit .285 with 19 stolen bases in 35 major league games before being sent down in late May to work on his defense and on-base skills. In June with Durham, he excelled, posting a .366 batting average, a .416 on-base percentage, and 11 stolen bases without being caught, while also improving his plate discipline and defense. The Rays are looking to utilize Simpson’s speed and improved play as they pursue the division-leading Yankees in the AL East. Simpson’s return is seen as a key move for Tampa Bay's playoff hopes, given their strong record since late May.
