Modella Capital saves 156 Claire's UK stores securing 1,000 jobs amid administration
Modella Capital has agreed to purchase 156 Claire's fashion accessories stores in the UK and Ireland, securing the future of approximately 1,000 jobs and ensuring the brand will continue trading on British high streets. However, 145 Claire's stores were not included in the deal, leaving about 1,000 jobs at risk and the fate of these stores uncertain as administrators continue to explore options. The purchase follows Claire's UK and Ireland business entering administration after financial difficulties tied to its US parent company filing for bankruptcy. Modella Capital, which also acquired WH Smith's high street stores and the arts and crafts retailer Hobbycraft, acknowledged that some store closures and job losses are inevitable as it negotiates with landlords. Administrators have committed to keeping the remaining stores open while seeking solutions, reflecting efforts to preserve the brand amid competition from online and social media-driven retail. The deal represents a significant rescue move for Claire's, a longstanding retailer popular for ear-piercing services and fashion accessories among teenagers.
