13-Year-Old Dies After Fireworks Explosion West Tulsa
A 13-year-old boy died after a fireworks explosion at the Sandy Park Apartments in west Tulsa on Labor Day evening. Police and firefighters responded to reports of the child in cardiac arrest around 5:30 p.m., and despite lifesaving efforts, the boy was pronounced dead shortly after reaching the hospital. Witnesses said a group of boys were setting off mortar-style fireworks, and the victim was holding a mortar tube with it facing his head when it ignited. A small grass fire started near the south edge of the complex, and witnesses pulled the child from the fire and called 911. Authorities emphasized the dangers of fireworks and urged residents to exercise extreme caution when handling them. The Tulsa Police Department has not disclosed the victim's identity.
