Viking Plans First India River Cruises on Brahmaputra in 2027
Viking is launching its first-ever river cruise in India with the Viking Brahmaputra, a custom-built vessel designed to navigate the Brahmaputra River in Assam, starting operations in late 2027. The ship will accommodate 80 guests in 40 outside staterooms featuring floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and private verandas, and will include amenities such as a spa, fitness center, and an open-air Sky Bar. The 15-day Wonders of India itinerary combines an eight-day river cruise with guided land tours in Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, offering visits to up to 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the Taj Mahal and Jaipur's Palace of Winds. Passengers will experience cultural immersion through temple visits, riverside villages, and wildlife spotting in Kaziranga National Park, as well as exploring Majuli, one of the world's largest river islands. Viking's CEO Torstein Hagen highlighted the launch as a new way for travelers to explore India's rich heritage and natural wonders in comfort, marking the company's entry into the Indian river cruise market. This initiative also aims to boost tourism in Assam by showcasing lesser-known destinations and offering an intimate, luxury cruising experience reflective of Viking's Scandinavian design ethos.
