A fatal accident inquiry (FAI) is set to be held in Aberdeen Sheriff Court regarding the death of 36-year-old gamekeeper Matthew Burden, who died following an all-terrain vehicle accident on January 29, 2022. Burden was driving a Can-AM Traxter along an unclassified road when the crash occurred, leading to his hospitalization and subsequent death on February 6, 2022. The inquiry, mandated by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), is expected to examine various factors, including the use of the vehicle's seatbelt and the condition of the driver’s door. Additionally, it will review the company's maintenance and safety procedures. Procurator fiscal Andy Shanks emphasized that the inquiry aims to establish the circumstances surrounding Burden's death and explore potential preventive measures for the future. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 24, 2023.
