Two Arrested After Officer Injured Outside MGM Music Hall
Two men, 30-year-old Edwin Rivera of Mashpee and 27-year-old Steven (Stephen) Costa of Hyannis, were arrested after a violent disturbance outside a Kevin Gates concert at Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway Wednesday night while police on a paid detail assisted venue security. Police say Rivera became combative while being escorted out, threw a drink, struck an officer, grabbed the officer’s jacket, attempted to pull him toward the crowded sidewalk, reached for the officer’s department-issued firearm and dislodged his radio before officers brought him under control. Costa allegedly interfered with officers, attempted to strike a fallen officer, ignored verbal commands and was subdued with a Taser. One officer was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment; Boston EMS evaluated Rivera and Costa, who did not require hospitalization. Rivera faces multiple charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and attempting to disarm an officer; Costa faces charges including assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and interfering with an officer, and both were booked and are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court. Reports say Rivera remained combative during the booking process.
