Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Meta Platforms

Meta Platforms and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, successfully defended against a shareholder lawsuit alleging they misled investors regarding child safety on Facebook and Instagram. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer dismissed the case, stating that the plaintiff, Matt Eisner, failed to demonstrate any financial harm to shareholders due to Meta's disclosures. The judge emphasized that federal law does not require companies to disclose all decisions related to child safety or shortcomings in their policies. The lawsuit aimed to block Meta's 2024 annual meeting and sought to void election results, but the dismissal was issued with prejudice, preventing further attempts to sue on the same grounds. Despite this victory, Meta continues to face numerous legal challenges related to social media addiction from state attorneys general and various lawsuits from users and their guardians.
