Second Man Arrested Murder St Helens Elderly Couple Arson
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering an elderly couple, Eric Greener, 77, and Sheila Jackson, 83, following an arson attack at their home on South John Street, St Helens. The couple died in hospital after the fire, which police confirmed involved the use of an accelerant. The first suspect, a 31-year-old man from St Helens, was arrested on July 20 and later released on conditional bail, while a second suspect, a 46-year-old man from Fazakerley, Liverpool, was subsequently arrested and remains in custody. Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson emphasized the ongoing investigation and urged the public to provide any information that could help bring those responsible to justice. The attack has deeply shocked the St Helens community, with police describing the incident as "absolutely sickening." Authorities continue to seek public assistance through various channels to aid their inquiries.
