Suspect Arrested in Hammond Kidnapping, Rape Case

Donnie Lee Stevenson, an 18-year-old suspect from Independence, was arrested following a manhunt after allegedly kidnapping and raping a woman in Hammond, Louisiana. The incident began at a Target store where Stevenson reportedly held the victim at gunpoint, forced her into her car, and drove to a remote location to commit the assault. After the crime, Stevenson made the victim drive back to the Target, where she sought help from bystanders and police. The suspect was later identified through video footage and a witness tipped off the police, leading to his capture late Friday night. Authorities confirmed that Stevenson was armed during the crime and had one prior adult charge of illegal possession of stolen property. Police Chief Edwin Bergeron confirmed Stevenson's arrest and mentioned that the victim was chosen at random from among other women he had followed in the store.
