China's Taiwan Drills Heighten Regional Tensions

China's People's Liberation Army conducted extensive military drills around Taiwan, dubbed 'Joint Sword-2024B', involving coordinated efforts between naval and coastguard forces, with a record number of aircraft and ships participating. These exercises are seen as a 'stern warning' to Taiwan and coincide with increased military tensions in the region, including a recent collision between Chinese and Filipino vessels in the South China Sea. In response, the United States, the Philippines, and allies such as Australia, Britain, Japan, and South Korea began large-scale military exercises in the Philippines, focusing on coastal defense and regional stability.
