Five Arrested in Everett Toddler Fentanyl Overdose Death

Five individuals were arrested in connection with the overdose death of a 13-month-old toddler in South Everett last year. On April 24, 2024, Everett police responded to a medical call where officers detected a burning odor linked to fentanyl and observed multiple small blue fentanyl pills on the floor of the home. Despite life-saving efforts, the child was pronounced dead, with the medical examiner ruling the cause as drug poisoning. During the investigation, detectives found drug paraphernalia throughout the home and video evidence showing occupants using narcotics in the presence of young children. The suspects were charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment due to the difficulty of pinpointing who directly caused the death and limitations in local laws regarding fentanyl-related charges. Authorities emphasized the extreme danger fentanyl poses to children, noting even small residues can be lethal and pills may be mistaken for candy by toddlers.
