The criminal trial of eight medical professionals accused of negligence in the death of Diego Maradona has been postponed to March 11, 2025. Originally set to begin in June and then rescheduled for October, the trial will now proceed after a request from several defendants. Maradona passed away in November 2020 at age 60, shortly after brain surgery for a blood clot, with the official cause of death determined to be a heart attack. The defendants, including neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, face charges of 'homicide by negligence' and could receive prison sentences of eight to 25 years if found guilty. A panel of medical experts concluded that Maradona would have had a better chance of survival with proper care in a medical facility. One of the accused nurses has requested a separate jury trial scheduled for October 2, 2024.
