Multiple Shot Near Howard University During Homecoming
Police responded to gunfire around 8:20–8:23 p.m. Friday on the 600 block of Howard Place NW/Georgia Avenue near Howard University during homecoming activities. Officials reported four or five victims; Metropolitan Police and D.C. Fire said three men, a woman and a 13-year-old boy were transported to hospitals, mostly with non-life‑threatening wounds, though some outlets reported one victim in serious or critical condition. Authorities said none of the victims were Howard students and one was identified as a Morgan State student. Two to three suspects were detained or arrested, three firearms were recovered and the scene was secured while multiple road closures and transit adjustments were put in place. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith warned the department will pursue and hold people who bring firearms into the city accountable, and police urged the public to avoid the area as they continue investigating and seek witnesses.
