Nebraska plans live scrimmage for lower-unit players April 26
Nebraska head football coach Matt Rhule has reversed his earlier decision to forgo a traditional spring game, announcing the Huskers will now host the 'Husker Games' on April 26, a fan event that will include live scrimmaging primarily for players on the roster bubble or those not expected to make the 105-man limit. Rhule initially cited concerns about other teams scouting and poaching players during televised scrimmages, a sentiment shared by other programs opting out of spring games. The live scrimmage is designed to give these players a final chance to showcase their abilities and generate tape for potential opportunities elsewhere, as well as to provide a memorable send-off for those who may not continue with the team. Most established starters will not participate, though some may request to play. The Husker Games will also feature skills competitions, 7-on-7 games with current and former players, and a women's flag football exhibition, offering fans a broader preview of Nebraska athletics. The event is scheduled to occur after the transfer portal closes, ensuring participation doesn't impact player movement.
