Amy Sherman-Palladino’s 'Eloise' Begins Filming
Netflix is developing a live-action feature adaptation of Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight’s Eloise books, reimagining the mischievous girl who lives on the “tippy-top floor” of New York’s Plaza Hotel. Amy Sherman-Palladino will direct and co-write the screenplay with Hannah Marks and Linda Woolverton. Newcomer Mae Schenk will star as Eloise in her feature debut, while Ryan Reynolds will produce through his Maximum Effort banner and appear as an original villain created for the film. MRC (which acquired the rights in 2019) and Handmade Films are overseeing production in collaboration with the Thompson estate and Simon & Schuster. Netflix describes the movie as a “wholly original adventure” updating the series for modern family audiences, and principal photography is set to begin this month.
