11 injured in LNER train stabbing
A mass stabbing on an LNER train from Doncaster to London King’s Cross left at least 11 people injured, with two in life‑threatening condition; the service stopped at Huntingdon and two men were arrested (one later released). Police said there was nothing to suggest a terror motive while investigations continue and counter‑terrorism officers are providing support, and authorities face questions over their handling of related incidents in Peterborough the night before and the morning of the attack. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood pledged to scrutinise whether the attack could have been prevented and whether policing or other measures should change, praising the bravery of passengers and train crew and noting an onboard crew member was grievously injured. Nottingham Forest said many London‑based supporters were travelling home after a 2-2 draw with Manchester United and owner Evangelos Marinakis pledged to fund medical care for any Forest fans affected. Eyewitnesses described passengers and staff confronting a knife‑wielding attacker — one Forest season‑ticket holder was reported seriously injured protecting a young girl and others, including Alistair Day, attempted to intervene — and officials say those actions helped prevent greater harm; some victims have since been discharged while others remain in hospital.
