An eviction drive in Assam's Kamrup Metropolitan district turned violent, resulting in the deaths of two protesters and injuries to over 30 people, including 22 police personnel. The clashes erupted when police attempted to evict Bengali-speaking Muslim villagers who had reoccupied government land. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma blamed the Congress for inciting the aggression that led to the violence. The eviction operation, which aimed to clear 248 bighas of land, saw officials attacked with sharp weapons, sticks, and stones. The police resorted to firing after being surrounded and attacked by an irate mob. Additional security forces have been deployed to maintain order in the area.
