Girmay Zahilay Launches King County Executive Campaign

Girmay Zahilay, a Metropolitan King County Councilmember, has officially launched his campaign for King County Executive, aiming to prioritize public safety, affordable housing, and economic opportunities for working families. Zahilay, who grew up in public housing in South Seattle after immigrating from Sudan, emphasizes his personal experiences as a foundation for his commitment to serve the community. He has garnered significant endorsements, including those from Governor-elect Bob Ferguson and the UFCW 3000 union, and is focused on addressing issues such as a broken justice system and gun violence. Zahilay joins fellow Democrats Claudia Balducci and John Wilson in the race, succeeding Dow Constantine, who has announced he will not seek re-election in 2025.
