OKC Police Sergeant Joseph Gibson Resigns After Excessive Force Incident

Sgt. Joseph Gibson of the Oklahoma City Police Department has resigned following an investigation into his use of excessive force during an incident involving a 71-year-old man, Lich Vu, in October. Bodycam footage captured the altercation, where Gibson slammed Vu to the ground after a minor traffic citation dispute, resulting in serious injuries for Vu, including a brain bleed. Although Gibson faced criminal charges for aggravated assault, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond later dropped the charges, citing a lack of criminal intent. The Oklahoma City Police Department confirmed that Gibson's departure was a resignation and not a termination. Vu's family expressed concern over his ongoing health issues after the incident. The police department is conducting a separate internal investigation to assess any potential policy violations by Gibson.
