Giro d'Italia to Start in Albania in 2025
The Giro d'Italia will make history by starting in Albania for the first time in its 108-year history, with the initial three stages scheduled from May 9 to May 11, 2025. The opening stage will commence in Durres and finish in Tirana, covering 102 miles, followed by an 8.5-mile individual time trial in Tirana, and a third stage that will start and finish in Vlore over a distance of 99 miles. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama emphasized the significance of this event for both sports and tourism, as Albania has seen a surge in foreign visitors recently. This will be the 15th time the Giro has begun outside of Italy, with previous starts held in countries like Belgium and Hungary. The full race route is set to be revealed on January 13, 2025.
