Rangers Semien Hopes to Return This Season from Foot Injury

Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien is aiming to return from a broken left foot and sprained ligament injury before the end of the 2025 regular season, despite the risks involved. Sustained on August 20 against the Kansas City Royals, Semien has been progressing with rehabilitation, including walking on an in-pool treadmill and preparing lower body movements to simulate batting. He hopes to resume hitting during the upcoming road trip and potentially return to running by the Rangers' home series starting September 19 against the Miami Marlins, with only nine games left in the season at that point. Semien emphasized the need to be cautious, stating he would stop if he feels pain, but is motivated to contribute to the Rangers' playoff push as they chase the AL West lead and a wild-card spot. The 34-year-old three-time All-Star has missed only a few games in recent seasons and is currently batting .230 with 15 home runs in 127 games this year. The Rangers are currently in third place in the AL West, trailing the Houston Astros by 2.5 games and the Seattle Mariners by one game, making Semien's potential return significant for their postseason aspirations.
