Banksy's Well Hung Lover Auctioned with Building

Banksy's renowned mural 'Well Hung Lover' will be auctioned alongside the building it adorns in Bristol next February. The artwork, which features a man hanging from a window and a woman in her underwear, was painted in 2006 on the wall of a former sexual health clinic and has become a symbol of changing attitudes toward street art in the city. The auction, organized by estate agent Hollis Morgan, will offer a 250-year lease on the Grade II-listed Georgian property, with a starting price of approximately $884,000 (£700,000). The new owner will be required to keep the mural intact due to a restrictive covenant, although there is no formal city policy on street art. The mural has been a focal point for the public, attracting significant attention, especially after a city poll revealed 97% support for its preservation when removal was considered by local authorities. This sale underscores the ongoing tension between urban development and the preservation of street art.
