Cities Nationwide Honor Rosa Parks’ Legacy

Various cities and organizations across the United States are commemorating civil rights icon Rosa Parks by offering fare-free transit services and dedicating bus seats in her memory. VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio and Tyler Transit in Texas are among the agencies honoring Parks’ legacy, with VIA offering free rides and Tyler Transit reserving a seat on each bus. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation is placing special cards and reserving seats on its buses to honor Parks. The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan, is hosting an event featuring a panel discussion and documentary screening to celebrate her activism. Parks' refusal to give up her seat in 1955 sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, leading to the desegregation of public transit and marking her as a pivotal figure in the civil rights movement.
