Southern Nights Owners Indicted on Child Pornography Charges

Richard Kowalczyk, the former owner of the Southern Nights LGBTQ+ bar in Tampa, and his partner Eric Patrick, face serious federal charges including child pornography possession and conspiracy to entice a minor. Their arrest followed a year-long investigation that began in January 2023, during which investigators uncovered graphic text exchanges and explicit child sexual abuse material on messaging platforms. Kowalczyk, 44, is also charged with receipt and possession of child pornography, while Patrick, 31, is accused of distribution. Both defendants have denied the allegations through their attorney, emphasizing their innocence and intent to defend themselves in court. The investigation revealed disturbing conversations about sexual encounters with minors and involved detailed plans to meet young boys. Following their indictment, Kowalczyk announced he would step back from his business operations to focus on his legal defense.
