Amber Davies Drafted In After Dani Dyer Injury
Strictly Come Dancing’s series 23 opened with a chaotic first live show: host Claudia Winkleman stumbled a handover and producers confirmed it was a non‑elimination week with judges’ scores to be combined next week. The BBC announced viewers must now vote online rather than by phone, a change that has provoked anger from some viewers. The live lineup was reshuffled at short notice after Dani Dyer withdrew with a fractured ankle and Amber Davies was drafted in with roughly 24 hours’ notice to rehearse. Davies, a Love Island winner and West End performer, will be partnered with Nikita Kuzmin and is due to debut on the first live show performing a Waltz. Her strong stage and dance background prompted backstage grumbling and fan accusations of unfairness, though the BBC said it had seen no evidence of organised cast fury and former pro Oti Mabuse publicly defended Davies.
