Driver Arrested After Killing Teenage Girl, Woman in Queens
A 16-year-old girl named Jhoanny Gomez-Alvarez was killed early Saturday morning in Queens after being struck by a Chevy Suburban driven by a 38-year-old man. The incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. at Roosevelt Avenue and Benham Street, following an argument between the driver and a group of people including the victims. The driver reportedly jumped the curb and intentionally hit Gomez-Alvarez and a 32-year-old woman, who was hospitalized in stable condition. After the collision, the suspect attempted to flee, reversing down the street and crashing into a parked vehicle before being taken into custody. Witnesses indicated the driver appeared intoxicated, and police are continuing their investigation while pending charges against the man. The tragic event is under active investigation by authorities.
