Nebraska has certified two ballot measures for the November 2024 election to legalize medical cannabis, despite allegations of fraudulent signatures that could undermine the process. Advocacy group Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana successfully collected enough signatures, surpassing the needed 86,500, to qualify the measures, although they face scrutiny due to a felony charge against petition circulator Michael Egbert for submitting false signatures, including those of deceased individuals. Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers raised concerns about the validity of several thousand signatures, stating that his office's investigation remains ongoing. The measures will still appear on the ballot, but could potentially be invalidated if enough fraudulent signatures are confirmed. Crista Eggers, the campaign manager for the pro-cannabis group, remains confident about the public's support. The upcoming election also includes other measures, such as conflicting abortion proposals and sick leave mandates.
