Sharon Lokedi secures historic Boston Marathon victory, breaks course record
Kenya's Sharon Lokedi claimed victory at the Boston Marathon, setting a course record and defeating two-time defending champion Hellen Obiri. Lokedi, who was runner-up the previous year, surged ahead in the final miles, holding off Obiri and finishing in a record-breaking time of around 2:17:20. Ethiopia's Yalemzerf Yehualaw and Amane Beriso pushed the pace mid-race but ultimately finished third and fourth, unable to sustain their challenge. Lokedi's triumph marks her second major marathon win, following her previous success at the New York Marathon. The win was seen as an upset, as Obiri was widely favored and known for her strong finishing kick, which did not materialize this time. Lokedi attributed her success to strategic patience and strong preparation, especially after training in Arizona.
