Following a strong opening race, where they placed third, the Australians secured commanding wins in the subsequent races, putting them five points ahead of Britain, who previously led the season rankings. The United States team faced significant setbacks as their boat capsized during practice, resulting in extensive damage and their withdrawal from the competition, along with penalties affecting their overall standings. France made a commendable return after missing earlier races, finishing fourth on the day. The event marks the third round of a growing series, with plans to expand the number of races significantly in the coming seasons, akin to a waterborne Formula One. SailGP co-founder Russell Coutts emphasized the league's aim to appeal to a broad audience beyond just sailing enthusiasts.
