The United States and the Republic of Cyprus have signed a Roadmap for Bilateral Defense Cooperation to strengthen security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. This agreement, signed by U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Celeste Wallander and Cypriot Defense Minister Vassilis Palmas, outlines combined efforts to enhance response to humanitarian crises, address climate change impacts, and improve military interoperability. The partnership builds on the lifting of a U.S. arms embargo on Cyprus in 2022 and includes cooperation to counter malicious actions. The agreement was celebrated during the third U.S.-ROC Defense and Security Dialogue in Nicosia. Wallander highlighted Cyprus's strategic role and its efforts in supporting American evacuations and humanitarian aid deliveries. Both nations are committed to deepening their defense ties to ensure regional security and prosperity.
