Moped Rider Dies After Head-On Bus Collision Near Kualoa Park

A 23-year-old man riding a moped near Kualoa Regional Park in Hawaii died after a head-on collision with a bus on Kamehameha Highway. The rider attempted a wheelie, lost control, and veered into oncoming traffic, resulting in the crash. He sustained life-threatening injuries, including a severe head injury, and was not wearing a helmet at the time. Emergency responders transported him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The bus driver was unharmed and remained at the scene. Authorities do not believe speed, drugs, or alcohol were factors in the accident, which marks Oahu's 48th traffic fatality this year, compared to 23 at the same time in 2024.
