Bail Denied for Suspect in Gettysburg College Assault

Ian Cleary, 31, was ordered held without bail during a court hearing in Pennsylvania on Friday, a day after returning to the U.S. following his extradition from France, where he had been detained since April. Cleary is accused of sexually assaulting former Gettysburg University student Shannon Keeler in 2013 and later sending her a Facebook message stating, 'So I raped you.' The Adams County District Attorney's Office argued for his detention, citing Cleary's lack of ties to the area and his financial resources that could facilitate fleeing. Keeler, who has pursued the case for over a decade, expressed renewed faith in the justice system following Cleary's extradition. The next court hearing is scheduled for January 29. Cleary was the subject of an international search after a 2021 arrest warrant was issued in Pennsylvania after a delay in pursuing the case.
