Marin Cilic Upsets Draper in Wimbledon Comeback
Fourth-seeded British player Jack Draper was eliminated in the second round of Wimbledon 2025 by 36-year-old Marin Cilic, who won in four sets (6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4). Despite Draper's high ranking and home crowd advantage, Cilic, a former US Open champion and Wimbledon finalist, delivered 16 aces and 53 winners in a commanding performance. The victory marks Cilic's first win over a top-five player on grass and comes after his return from two knee surgeries and an extended absence, largely playing on the Challenger circuit. Draper remained winless beyond the second round at Wimbledon and voiced deep disappointment over his grass-court form. Cilic described the win as an 'incredible' emotional milestone in his comeback. The result also means Wimbledon 2025 will feature a historically low number of seeded players in the third round, with Cilic set to face Spain's Jaume Munar next.
