Grand National Horse Death Sparks Safety Concerns

The recent 2025 Grand National race resulted in the tragic death of Celebre D'Allen, a 13-year-old horse, who collapsed due to exhaustion after being pushed beyond its limits by jockey Michael Nolan. Nolan has been suspended for ten days following a stewards’ inquiry which concluded that he continued to race the struggling horse, despite it showing signs of exhaustion. Another horse, Broadway Boy, suffered a fall but is reportedly recovering after receiving immediate veterinary care. The incident adds to the historical toll of horse fatalities in the Grand National, which has seen 89 deaths since its inception in 1839. In response to safety concerns, changes have been made over the years to reduce injuries and deaths during the event. This year's race was marred by further controversy with a chaotic start, reminiscent of past issues faced in the 2014 event, highlighting ongoing challenges in race management and safety protocols.
