Pakistan wins gold in javelin
Arshad Nadeem made history by winning Pakistan's first-ever Olympic gold medal in the men's javelin throw at the Paris 2024 Olympics, achieving a record-breaking distance of 92.97 meters. This victory marks Pakistan's first medal of any kind since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, ending a 32-year drought. Nadeem, 27, celebrated his win against Indian rival Neeraj Chopra, who secured silver with a throw of 89.45 meters, showcasing a spirit of sportsmanship despite the historic rivalry between their nations. The previous Olympic record of 90.57 meters was held by Norway's Andreas Thorkildsen since 2008, which Nadeem shattered on his second attempt. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Nadeem for bringing pride to the nation, while celebrations erupted in his hometown, Mian Channu. Nadeem's triumph not only highlights a personal achievement but also revives hope for Pakistan's athletic future in track and field.
