A Taiwanese Mirage 2000 fighter jet crashed off the northwest coast during a nighttime training exercise on Tuesday, prompting immediate search efforts for the pilot who successfully ejected before the aircraft went down. The jet reportedly lost power around 8 p.m. local time and crashed into the sea near Hsinchu, a city that hosts a significant air base. Fortunately, the pilot was later found safe and taken to a military hospital for evaluation. This incident marks another in a series of crashes involving Taiwan's air force, which has seen at least seven Mirage jets lost since their introduction in the late 1990s. While the air force is well-trained, it has faced increasing challenges due to frequent Chinese military exercises near the island, although these incidents have not been directly linked to the crashes. Taiwan's air force relies heavily on both the Mirage 2000 and U.S.-made F-16Vs.
