Grandfather, Grandson Die in Texas Chambers County Plane Crash

A small plane carrying a grandfather, Larry Motte of La Porte, Texas, and his young grandson from Austin crashed in a remote wooded area near FM 1724, south of Interstate 10 in Hankamer, Chambers County. The aircraft, a red and white low-wing Commander, last transmitted data around 4:57 p.m. Saturday, showing a sudden loss of altitude before going missing. A large-scale search involving the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Game Wardens, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the U.S. Coast Guard was launched late Saturday night using helicopters, drones, and ground crews. The wreckage and the bodies of both occupants were found Sunday morning, and both were pronounced dead at the scene. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have taken over the investigation into the cause of the crash. Authorities have asked for privacy and prayers for the family during this difficult time.
