Cumberland, MD, Offers $20,000 Relocation Incentive

The city of Cumberland in Allegany County, Maryland, has launched a pilot relocation program that offers $20,000 to families willing to move there. The package consists of $10,000 in cash and up to $10,000 for approved home renovations or as a down payment on a newly built home. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old, work full-time, and move from outside Allegany County within six months. They must also purchase a home valued at no less than $150,000 and reside in it as their primary residence for at least five years. The initiative aims to counteract population decline and promote the city's low cost of living, historic charm, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
