Portugal Declares State of Calamity Amid Wildfires

Portugal is grappling with one of its worst wildfire outbreaks, resulting in seven fatalities and extensive property destruction. Prime Minister Luís Montenegro declared a state of calamity and mobilized additional resources, including police to investigate arson suspects, while also promising support for those affected. Over 100 separate wildfires have destroyed approximately 49,400 acres, with local residents joining firefighters in efforts to combat the flames.
