Minnesota Plans $70 Million Hockey Hall of Fame by 2028
Minnesota is set to open a new Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame by spring 2028, celebrating the state's deep hockey heritage with a 120,000+ square-foot facility that will include a museum, indoor and outdoor ice rinks, a hockey-themed restaurant, and an auditorium for events. Led by CEO Natalie Darwitz, a three-time Olympian and Hockey Hall of Fame member, the Hall aims to be a dynamic community hub that honors players, coaches, officials, and key contributors while inspiring future generations through interactive exhibits and digital experiences. The project, estimated at $70 million and supported by corporate sponsorships and development partners, will be located in a Twin Cities suburb, with groundbreaking expected in June 2026. The Hall is designed to be more than just plaques, offering immersive, goosebumps-inducing experiences similar to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, and will host prestigious induction ceremonies starting about a year after opening. It is a nonprofit effort supported by an advisory board and endorsed by the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, aiming to preserve Minnesota's unique hockey story and grow the game at grassroots levels through education and outreach initiatives. Organizers emphasize that the Hall will make Minnesotans proud by highlighting both famous legends and behind-the-scenes contributors in hockey's rich state history.
