Florida Man Arrested for Impersonating Elon Musk

Jeffrey Arthur Moynihan Jr., a 56-year-old Florida resident, was arrested for allegedly impersonating Elon Musk to defraud a 74-year-old Texas woman of $600,000 over several months through Facebook. The victim believed she was investing in Musk's businesses, having been convinced by Moynihan's manipulation and the promise of a $55 million return. Moynihan was apprehended on November 19, 2024, after police traced the fraudulent transactions to his accounts and his business, Jeff’s Painting and Pressure Washing LLC. This case highlights the growing issue of online scams targeting vulnerable seniors, with authorities urging caution and vigilance in financial interactions. The Bradenton Police Department noted that their Elder Fraud Unit has seen nearly $3 million in fraud losses this year alone. Moynihan faces multiple charges including grand theft, identity theft, and financial fraud.
