Tesla Shanghai Plant Manager Song Gang Departs

Song Gang, who has served as the plant manager for Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory since its inception in 2018, has officially left the company. His departure was confirmed through a letter to staff, marking the end of his tenure as Tesla's first employee at the Shanghai site. Fei Wenjin, previously the director of quality, will assume Song's responsibilities as the new senior director. The Shanghai Gigafactory, Tesla's largest production facility, has a capacity of over 950,000 vehicles annually and recently achieved a significant production milestone of three million cars. Song was also leading the construction of Tesla's first Megapack factory outside the U.S., set to begin production in early 2025. The reasons for his departure remain unclear, coinciding with a pause in expansion plans for the Shanghai facility.
