Authorities have identified 25-year-old Rodney Gaston from Oakland as the man shot and killed during an attempted robbery at Classic Tobacco in Norwalk. The incident occurred on August 6 when Gaston, armed with a handgun and accompanied by two other men, attempted to rob the store, using pepper spray on the owner. In response, the store owner fired a shot, striking Gaston, who later collapsed and was pronounced dead at a hospital. The two accomplices, identified as 22-year-old Lamont Neal of Stockton and 26-year-old Dashaunte Woods of Oakland, fled the scene but were later arrested in a nearby residential area. They have been charged with robbery and were confirmed to be acting in collaboration with Gaston during the incident. The store owner was opening the business when the robbery took place around 9 a.m.
