Threads Tests Global Spoiler Blur Feature for Text, Images
Meta's microblogging platform Threads is globally testing a new feature that allows users to mark text or images as spoilers, which then appear blurred or obscured until tapped or clicked to reveal the content. Announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, this feature aims to improve social storytelling etiquette by preventing unintentional plot disclosures in discussions about movies, TV shows, books, and other sensitive content. Spoilers appear as a gray block on desktops and as animated floating dots on mobile devices, with the mobile experience currently prioritized. This addition, inspired by similar tools on Reddit and Discord, supports consent-based content sharing and fosters a more empathetic, user-friendly environment. The rollout is still limited to certain users, with ongoing improvements planned, including a better desktop experience. Meta hopes this feature will encourage more thoughtful engagement and trust among the growing community of entertainment and pop culture fans on Threads.
