Former White Sox World Series Champion Bobby Jenks Dies at 44 from Cancer
Bobby Jenks, former Chicago White Sox All-Star pitcher and 2005 World Series champion, died at age 44 from adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer, while undergoing treatment in Sintra, Portugal. Jenks was instrumental in ending the White Sox's 88-year championship drought by securing the final outs in Game 4 of the 2005 World Series and was a two-time All-Star with the team. After leaving the White Sox, he signed with the Boston Red Sox but retired early due to injuries and complications from back surgery. Following his playing career, Jenks transitioned to coaching, leading the Grand Junction Rockies to a Pioneer League title in 2022 and managing the Windy City ThunderBolts. He is survived by his wife Eleni Tzitzivacos, their two children, and four children from a previous marriage. Jenks is remembered as a fierce competitor, devoted father, and iconic figure in White Sox history.
