Walter Buchanan Trial for Wife's Murder Begins

Walter Buchanan is on trial for the alleged murder of his wife, Darrel Buchanan, at their flat near Hamilton racecourse in Lanarkshire on February 18, 2023. Prosecutors accuse the 66-year-old of physically assaulting Darrel, including hitting her on the head, choking her, and covering her nose and mouth. Buchanan called emergency services, claiming he found his wife 'cold to the touch' upon waking, and attempted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Despite paramedics providing advanced life support, Darrel was pronounced dead shortly after.
