Boulder Attacker Charged After Incendiary Assault on Israeli Hostage Vigil
Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian national who applied for asylum in 2022, was arrested after attacking a pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder, Colorado, using a makeshift flamethrower and incendiary devices. The attack targeted participants of a Run for Their Lives event advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, resulting in eight injuries, including a Holocaust survivor; at least one victim was critically burned. Authorities and the FBI are investigating the incident as a targeted act of terrorism, with Soliman facing multiple felony charges such as assault, use of explosives, and first-degree murder. Soliman shouted "Free Palestine" during the attack and was held on a $10 million bond, with no prior criminal record in Colorado. The incident has raised concerns about antisemitic violence linked to the Israel-Hamas conflict, prompting statements from officials emphasizing solidarity and the need to combat hate crimes. Medical facilities treated the victims, many of whom are elderly, and law enforcement continues to investigate, including executing a search warrant at Soliman's residence.
