Patrick Mendoza Pleads Guilty in Shooting Case

Patrick Mendoza, a North End restaurateur, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to a July 2023 shooting incident outside Modern Pastry. He admitted to armed assault with intent to murder and attempted assault and battery with a firearm, receiving a 2 1/2-year sentence with 18 months to serve, while one year is suspended. The incident stemmed from a longstanding feud with Rocco Giovanello, during which Mendoza fired shots that narrowly missed Giovanello and damaged the bakery's window. Mendoza's attorney highlighted his mental health struggles and stated he is taking responsibility for his actions. He will be on probation for three years and is required to undergo mental health treatment and stay away from the shooting location. The case has drawn significant attention due to Mendoza's family ties to the local restaurant scene and his prior legal troubles, including cutting off his GPS monitoring device.
